THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is on the hunt for armed robbers, who vanished with US$4 million from a cash in transit vehicle in Bulawayo last week.
With Zimbabweans still trying to come to terms with how US$4 million dollars disappeared in broad daylight, social media has gone on overdrive with some spreading falsehoods which could jeopardise investigations.
ZRP National Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, however, dispelled rumours that the armed robbers have been apprehended, saying they are working with the International Crime Police Organisation to track down the suspects.
“I want to assure Zimbabwe that the ZRP is still conducting investigations and the public should not panic. We are all on the trails of full-ups in the enquiries, at the same time, we are appealing to Zimbabwe to give us information because it is clear that this thing was well planned. We also want to caution the public against speculating. It is sending false information like what we have seen on social media, where some people are now coming up with all sorts of insinuations,” he said.
The money heist at the Ecobank Parkade Centre in Bulawayo was masterminded by a gang of six armed men who ambushed a Safeguard cash-in-transit vehicle.
It is believed to be the biggest money heist in Zimbabwe after the US$2.5 million ZB Bank cash robbery, which occurred at Gwebi River along the Harare – Chinhoyi Road in 2021.
