VOCATIONAL Training Centres (VTC) have been identified as a vital tool for youths to fight drug abuse and empower them to contribute to national development.
Over 2000 youths graduated at Lobengula Vocational Training Centre in Bulawayo, after completing their studies in industrial disciplines which include agriculture, catering, carpentry, leather studies, welding, and cosmetology.
Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training Minister Honourable Tino Machakaire who was the Guest of Honour noted the importance of the VTCs in capacitating young people to make informed choices.
“VTCs help build resilience. They empower youths with the ability to make healthier choices and pursue a productive future,” said the Minister.
Graduates are excited about the prospects that lie ahead.
“I have already started a catering business thanks to the training I received here,” said a graduate.
Another said, “Such programs empower us with entrepreneurship skills, and this ensures that we do not wait for jobs but create our own jobs.”
Government is revitalising Vocational Training Centres to ensure youths are empowered as the country journeys towards an upper middle income society by 2030.
