THE Zimbabwe Republic Police has released the names of six of the nine people who died in an accident involving a bus and a train in Triangle, Chiredzi District.
The accident happened on Tuesday morning when a bus was hit by a train at a railway crossing.
The names of the six are Knowledge Chivava, a male adult of Village D, Section 64, Triangle; Shepard Shumba (18), a male adult of House number 40, Section 64, Triangle; Maria Hlabwani (40), a female adult of Village 3, Nyahombe; Tinashe Mushindi (18), of Section 65, Triangle; Chinguvo Lucia (49), a female adult of Mapepa Area; and Learnmore Mutize (2), a male infant of Section 63, Triangle.
According to the police, the names of the other three victims will be released in due course after the victims have been identified by their next of kin.
Information gathered from sources indicates the driver of the bus might be on the run, but the police have yet to confirm the whereabouts of the driver, who is most likely to be charged if investigations show that he was at fault.
According to an eyewitness, Mr Tasiyana Zhou and some of the survivors, the driver failed to stop at the railway crossing, with his actions leading to the unfortunate accident, which claimed lives and injured more than 20 people.
