ZIMBABWE’S efforts to strengthen confidence in the financial sector are gaining momentum, with the Deposit Protection Corporation (DPC) completing its five-year strategic plan aimed at safeguarding the interests of depositors and promoting financial sector stability.

The corporation held its annual general meeting in Harare on Thursday to review its 2025 operations, assess performance and map out future strategies.

DPC Chairperson, Mr Canaan Dube said the meeting focused on evaluating the institution’s achievements and identifying opportunities for further growth.

“The key thrust of this AGM is to review the operations of the DPC in terms of overall performance, and what can be done to facilitate growth, so it is all about transparency and accountability in the near future,” he said.

Chief Executive Officer Mr Hopewell Zinyau said the institution remains committed to supporting policies that promote stability and confidence in the financial sector.

“It is all about what can be done to sustain growth driven by the need to foster future transparency. We are all looking to the future of a DPC that looks into the welfare of the banking public,” he said.

The corporation’s financial inclusion initiatives also received praise from stakeholders, who said the programmes have improved access to financial products and services for traditionally underserved groups.

“This is a platform that has impressed me as an ordinary Zimbabwean I would like to applaud the Deposit Protection Corporation for taking into account the needs of people with disabilities, the youths, women and marginalised people in their financial inclusion strategy this has really gone well for us as a nation in also getting access to the country’s financial products and services,” depositor Ms Patani Mlalazi said.

“The financial inclusion being carried out by the DPC has come at the right time, where even I, as a blind person I also have a bank account and access to the different platforms for banking systems. It is within such interventions that, as Zimbabweans, we continue to uphold the spirit of togetherness that is vital in the growth of financial systems,” depositor Mr Moses Mutemachimwe said.

The Deposit Protection Corporation also reported financial results for 2025 that exceeded market expectations, underscoring its continued growth and operational performance.
