A tragic road traffic accident claimed the life of Zimbabwean professional golfer Morton Kombai, while four fellow golfers were injured, just hours after the conclusion of the 2025 FBC Zimbabwe Open in Harare on Sunday night.
Kombai, a member of the Zimbabwe Professional Golfers Association (ZPGA) based in Zvishavane, died on the spot when the vehicle carrying the five golfers was involved in a fatal crash at the intersection of Samora Machel Avenue and Seventh Street.
Two other Zimbabwean golfers, Tonderai Masunga and Biggie Chibvuri, were seriously injured, along with Victor Kachepatsonga of Malawi and Lucky Ayiswere of Ghana. The injured players are currently receiving medical treatment at a local medical facility.
The golfing community has been left in mourning following the untimely passing of Kombai, who had just participated in the premier national tournament.
