Top honours awarded to arts sector leaders at NAMA

THE Harare Hippodrome was abuzz with excitement as the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) ceremony celebrated the crème de la crème of Zimbabwe’s artistic community.

The glamorous event, held Saturday brought together artists, performers and art enthusiasts to honor outstanding achievements across various disciplines.

In the dance category, Future Dube of Khaya Productions took home two awards for Outstanding Dance Group and Outstanding Choreographer.

The Spoken Word Awards saw Mukudzei Majoni (KingKandoro) win Outstanding Stand-Up Comedian, while Kudakwashe Rice was named Outstanding Poet, and, Panashe Gurende (Moojaya) took home the Outstanding Social Media Skits award.

Literary Arts Awards notable wins included Ray Mawerera for Outstanding First Published Book and Dr. Divine Ndhlukula for Outstanding Nonfiction Book.

The audience erupted in cheers as Sikhanyiso Ngwenya won the Outstanding Actor (Film and Television) award.

The music awards were a highlight of the evening, with Winky D taking home the coveted People’s Choice Award, while Tammy Moyo was crowned Outstanding Female Musician and Master H won the male equivalent.

Chillmaster was recognised as the Outstanding Breakthrough Musician, and The Unveiled was named Outstanding Music Group, wrapping up a night of celebration for Zimbabwe’s vibrant music scene.
