CHESS enthusiasts are battling for honours at the second edition of the Commercial Bank of Zimbabwe (CBZ) National Chess Championship in Harare.

All the country’s top competitors, including men’s champion Jemusse Zhemba and Refilwe Mudodo, who won the inaugural competition in the women’s category, are part of the cast at the Zimbabwe Chess Federation offices in Harare.

The tournament, which runs until Saturday, is being sponsored by CBZ to the tune of US$7 000.

Tournament Organiser, Agab Dozva said, “We are very happy with the turnout, and all the country’s top players are around, this just shows the magnitude of the competition, and we envisage a very tight finish in the finals.”

The winner of the tournament will represent Zimbabwe at the Africa Individual Championships, the 45th Chess Olympiad in Hungary, and the BRICS Games in Russia.
