The Second Republic has scored another success story in the education sector after three classroom blocks were commissioned at Mhanyame Primary School in Chinhoyi, in a development set to reduce the teacher-student ratio.

Mhanyame Primary School is leading by example in the effective utilisation of school funds after constructing three blocks housing six classrooms.

A learner at the school said, “We are now learning in safe buildings without fear of natural hazards.”

Another said, “We used to learn in a congested environment but now things have improved. We extend our appreciation to our parents for paying our school fees on time for the realisation of this development.”

Mashonaland West Provincial Education Director, Mr Gabriel Mhuma gave an update on the registration of satellite schools.

“We have registered over sixty schools, but we still have an outstanding figure given that we have a number of farm schools. The net effect of not registering schools is that teacher retention is low and this affects performance and results.”

The classroom blocks were commissioned by Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Marian Chombo.

She said, “I am impressed by this initiative by the SDC, it speaks to the government’s drive of ‘Nyika Inovakwa Ne Vene Vayo’. This should be emulated by others as this complements our developmental efforts which are being implemented across the country through devolution funds.”

Construction of new schools remains high on the government’s agenda in response to the growing learner population in existing facilities.
