THE Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) has issued six new community radio licences, further expanding access to local broadcasting across the country.

In a statement, BAZ Acting Chief Executive Officer Engineer Mathias Chakanyuka said the new licences, awarded to six community-based broadcasting entities, have been issued in accordance with provisions of the Broadcasting Services Act.

The new community radio stations include Chivi Community Radio station based in Chivi, Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe-based Chomazumba Community Radio Station, Dande FM based in Dande, Jakata FM based in Gutu, Marondera-based Ndera FM, and Nhimbe FM, which will be based in Makoni District.

According to BAZ, the milestone reflects a commitment to expand community access to information, strengthen local content production, and promote media diversity across the country.

The new community radio licences are a huge step in empowering communities to tell their own stories in line with the Second Republic’s inclusive development approach.
