POLICE in Bulawayo have arrested three suspects following a violent robbery at Alticon Logistics, where a security guard was overpowered, assaulted and tied up before the gang attempted to steal building materials.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said officers from Mzilikazi acted on a tip-off on 6 December and swiftly apprehended Mthabisi Ndlovu (25), Donson Dube (22) and Tatenda Choga (23) in connection with the incident.

The trio, who allegedly wore balaclavas and were armed with okapi knives and a screwdriver, reportedly stormed the premises and attacked the guard on duty. Police said the suspects blindfolded him with plastic, gagged him with a cloth and tied his hands and legs with wire before stabbing him three times on the right leg with a screwdriver.

After subduing the guard, the suspects moved to the warehouse, where they were caught loading 37 six-metre zinc sheets, 13 bundles of plain wire and 23 standard door frames into a truck.
