CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League champions Scottland moved to the top of the table after a commanding 3-0 victory over struggling Triangle United in a Matchday 17 encounter at Rufaro Stadium on Thursday.
The win lifted Mabviravira to 34 points, opening a two-point gap over second-placed Hardrock and CAPS United, who are both on 32 points.
Scottland set the tone early, with Knowledge Musona delighting the home crowd by scoring his fifth goal of the season to hand the hosts a first-half lead.
Khama Billiat extended the advantage after the break, taking his tally for the campaign to seven goals, before Issaka Mohammed completed the rout with Scottland’s third goal of the afternoon.
The result strengthened Scottland’s position at the summit and maintained their momentum in the title race.
Meanwhile, at Barbourfields Stadium, Highlanders bounced back from last week’s defeat to TelOne with a dramatic stoppage-time victory over Agama.
Royn Nyamo struck in the 90th minute to secure all three points for Bosso in a tightly contested encounter.
Highlanders coach Benjani Mwaruwari praised his side’s approach but lamented missed opportunities.
“Today we started very sharp and bright and, unfortunately, we did not get goals as usual. Sometimes when you start like that, you need to finish off. As you know, last week we had a similar game and at the end we lost, but today we ended with three points.”
Agama coach Godfrey Tamirepi was left frustrated after his side’s late heartbreak.
“Despite losing it in the 92nd minute, we came and we gave a good fight. They were at home, but we frustrated them and in the 31st minute, we could have gone one up.”
The victory moved Highlanders to 25 points, leaving the Bulawayo giants in eighth position on the league table.
