THE Southern African Development Community ( SADC) and the East Africa Community ( EAC) are set to hold a virtual meeting this Wednesday.

The two regional blocs, chaired by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and President William Ruto of Kenya, recently held a joint meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, where they discussed the conflict in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The meeting saw them giving a mandate to the appointed facilitators who are spearheading the peace process for the DRC.

It was agreed during the Nairobi meeting that, in order to silence the guns and ensure peace in the troubled DRC, there is need to involve all the actors involved in the conflict, political and non-political.

The panel of facilitators includes former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Central African Republic President Catherine Samba-Panza, former Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde, and former Botswana President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi.

The Eastern part of the DRC has been a war zone for close to three decades.
