THE Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and East African Community (EAC) convened their second joint virtual Summit to discuss the critical security and humanitarian situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
SADC Chairperson President Emmerson Mnangagwa applauded the continued peace efforts by the two regional blocs in ending hostilities in DRC.
He noted that implementation of the peace solution is not going as expected particularly with regards to the situation in areas in the Eastern DRC calling for accelerated efforts in response to the crisis.
EAC Chairperson, President William Ruto, said his region remains concerned with the negative events unfolding in the DRC.
He said the joint meetings reflect commitment in finding peace for the people of eastern Congo.
The EAC Chairperson further applauded President Kagame and President Tshisekedi for meeting and deliberating on the situation in the Eastern DRC.
The joint summit is expected to deliberate on the outcomes of the joint SADC-EAC Ministerial meeting, which was held on March 17.
