ZIMBABWE’S Sables return to Hartsfield Rugby Grounds in Bulawayo this Saturday for a crucial second-leg clash against Zambia’s Copper Eagles as preparations for the World Rugby Nations Cup gather pace.
The fixture marks the return of international rugby to Hartsfield for the first time in seven years, ending a lengthy absence for one of Zimbabwe’s most iconic rugby venues.
Zimbabwe will be aiming to complete a series double over their regional rivals after claiming a 43-31 victory in the opening match at Harare Sports Club last weekend.
That win highlighted the Sables’ attacking potency, while also exposing areas requiring refinement ahead of sterner international tests.
The two-match series forms a key part of Zimbabwe’s build-up to the World Rugby Nations Cup, where they will face formidable opposition in Tonga national rugby union team, the United States men’s national rugby union team and the Canada men’s national rugby union team.
A second victory over Zambia would provide Zimbabwe with valuable momentum and further evidence of their growing readiness for the tournament.
However, Zambia are expected to offer stiff resistance.
The Copper Eagles pushed the Sables for long spells in Harare and will be determined to overturn the 12-point deficit and restore pride.
Zimbabwe’s preparations will continue in June with a friendly tour of South Africa, where they are scheduled to face the South Africa national rugby union team.
They will then travel to the United States for the Nations Cup.
These fixtures form part of Zimbabwe’s broader preparations for qualification for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
