RWANDA is set to recruit another batch of at least 100 teachers from Zimbabwe in the second cohort of educationists destined for the East African country.
The development follows the signing of over 30 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements between the two countries across various sectors, including police cooperation, correctional services, energy, health, tourism, and education, during the Third Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation (JPCC) held in August this year in Rwanda.
The cooperation in the education sector has already resulted in over 150 Zimbabwean teachers working in Rwanda.
Speaking recently on the sidelines of the Africa-Nordic Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting in Victoria Falls, Rwanda commended the contribution of Zimbabwean teachers, describing the collaboration as a model for successful South-South cooperation.
“As we speak, more teachers are going through interviews. We believe that we will have close to a hundred more from Zimbabwe in a second cohort,” Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Honourable Olivier Nduhungirehe said.
Rwanda praised the impact of Zimbabwean professionals on its education system.
“The impact is positive on our education sector. We have 154 Zimbabwean teachers who are currently in Rwanda, mostly in teacher training centres, where they teach English and mathematics. Others are at the University of Rwanda, teaching health sciences,” Honourable Nduhungirehe noted.
The next round of bilateral discussions between Rwanda and Zimbabwe is scheduled for 2027 in Harare.
The meeting will review progress on the implementation of agreements signed in Kigali.
