THE ZANU PF-led government continues to expand agriculture projects in rural communities through reviving community gardens and small irrigation schemes, with the Muchenami community in Chivi Central being the latest to benefit.
Muchenami Garden in Chivi is being expanded, thanks to government intervention meant to ensure more people benefit in line with the inclusive development agenda.
Beneficiaries of the garden, which is close to a weir, are grateful to government support, concurring community gardens are transforming rural livelihoods.
“This community garden has been serving 63 families and the government has been very supportive through availing technical support,
“Today we received support our representative in Parliament Honourable Xavier Maoneke and expansion plans have begun and more than 100 families are set to benefit,
“Through this community garden many of us have been able to fend for their families, sending children to school. It is our hope that if expanded the project will benefit more families and transform lives,” they said.
Area legislator Honourable Xavier Maoneke rallied communities to take part in development programmes implemented by government, sentiments supported by Masvingo Youth Quota legislator, Cde Naledi Maunganidze.
“Here in Chivi Central, we are happy that the government has been very supportive to us, given that we are in a dry region. Muchenami is just one of many community gardens which are being revived with some getting solar powered boreholes. The whole idea is to create opportunities for the rural populace who might what to engage in commercial agriculture initiatives. For Muchenami we have started fencing the area and clearing the land, we expect to water from the dam for irrigation purposes,” he said.
Masvingo Youth Quota Legislator Honourable Naledi Maunganidze weighed in, “The development happening here is in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of leaving no one and no place behind. It is now the duty of our women and youths to participate in these programmes to transform their lives and those of their family members.”
The ZANU PF led government continues to implement transformative agriculture projects in rural communities, among them community gardens, irrigation schemes and poultry projects.
