THE first Youth One Day International between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan Under 19 sides at Harare Sports Club was abandoned due to persistent rains.
Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Pakistan are playing a tri-series in preparation for the Under 19 World Cup set to be co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia early next year.
Opting into bat this Christmas Day, Zimbabwe struggled with only openers Nathaniel Hlabangana (18) and Kudakwashe Muradzi (14) getting starts.
The rest was a torrid sight as the Asians reaped through the line up, bowling out Zimbabwe for 90.
Afghanistan were crusing in reply at 68/1. Fortunately, the persistent rains saved the day for the hosts.
Zimbabwe will face Pakistan on Monday after an Asian derby at Harare Sports Club as Afghanistan and Pakistan clash on Saturday.
