EDUCATION development in Zvishavane has received a significant boost, with 64 primary schools benefiting from a public-private partnership that has delivered more than 6 000 textbooks to institutions previously constrained by limited learning resources.
Many schools across the country continue to face persistent shortages of teaching materials, inadequate library facilities and limited access to reading content. The latest intervention, supported by government and development partners, seeks to close this gap and reinforce the teaching and learning environment.
Teachers in the district say the additional resources are already having a positive impact.
“We are grateful for the books donated to the school. These books will help open our children’s minds and contribute to their intellectual development,” a teacher said.
“These interventions breathe life into school environments and reintroduce reading as a joyful, daily activity for children. We are grateful for this kind gesture by the government and its development partners,” another added.
“Participating schools now report improved reading habits among learners, greater engagement in lessons, and increased teacher confidence in managing library resources,” a teacher stated.
While the development augments the e-learning process, it has also been cited as key to the success of the heritage-based education framework.
“We feel it is vital to nurture a reading culture in our young children. A reading culture and love of reading ensures that a child’s journey in education is smooth and skills for resourcefulness are harnessed, leading to lifelong learning,” Midlands Provincial Education Director, Mr Jameson Machimbira said.
“We strongly believe that once these schools are well-equipped, poor results will be a thing of the past. We want to provide a favourable environment that would help these children and their teachers come up with good grades,” the Director for Coordination in the Office of Midlands Minister of State for Provincial affairs and Devolution, Mr Kudakwashe Machako added.
The construction of schools demonstrates government commitment to ensuring access to quality education under President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inclusive development philosophy.
