Public helps nab armed robbery suspect linked to Zaka police killings

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of murder and armed robbery suspect Daniel Munyanyi (50), who had been on the run after allegedly shooting and killing two police officers in Zaka.
Munyanyi was arrested on Monday in the Nyika area of Bikita, Masvingo Province, where he had been hiding. Police said the arrest was effected by members of the public.
Authorities also confirmed that the firearm allegedly used in the commission of the offence has been recovered.
The deceased officers have been identified as Bernard Chindeke (38) and McKenzie Chitowe (42).
According to the ZRP, the two detectives had tracked armed robbery suspects to Ndume Village in Masvingo Province when the shooting occurred on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
