PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has visited the Gata residence in Harare’s Borrowdale Brooke to console the family after the death of ZESA Holdings Executive Chairperson, Dr Sydney Gata.
Dr Gata died at a local hospital on Thursday after a short illness.
ZANU PF Politburo members, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and ZESA Holdings officials have also visited the Gata family to mourn the former ZESA Holdings chief.
Dr Gata played a pivotal role in the accomplishment of Hwange Power Station Phases 1 and 2, the Main Transmission System, and the Urban and Rural Electrification Master Plan, which significantly advanced Zimbabwe’s energy sector.
He is survived by his wife, who is the Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Angeline Gata, children and grandchildren.
