PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has sent a message of condolences to the Gata family, after the death of ZESA Holdings Executive Chairperson Dr Sydney Gata, at a local hospital this Thursday.
In his condolence message, the President said Dr Gata was a very committed figure who dedicated his life to providing energy solutions and infrastructure development for the nation.
The Head of State noted that Dr Gata was a devoted and eminent cutting-edge engineer and educationist who made his mark both in theory and practice in Zimbabwe and beyond, in a career that spanned decades in academia, engineering, and public service.
The President highlighted some of Dr Gata’s accomplishments at the helm of ZESA Holdings which include the Hwange Power station Phase One and Two; the Main Transmission System and Regional Interconnectors; Zimbabwe’s National and Regional Power Control System; the Urban and Rural Master Plan and the restructuring of the energy sector under the End User Infrastructure Development Programme which rolled out 300 irrigation projects countrywide.
President Mnangagwa said Dr Gata leaves behind a rich and iconic legacy of architectural excellence in the energy sector.
Dr Gata was the husband of the Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Honourable Angeline Gata.
