PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa says government recognises the vital role of wetlands in sustaining biodiversity, climate resilience and water security.
In a statement to mark World Wetlands Day, President Mnangagwa reiterated government’s commitment to protecting wetlands which are essential ecosystems.
He said wetlands are natural resources which are foundational to a shared future.
The head of state has rallied the nation to converge in protecting and restoring wetlands for future generations.
In 2022, the government of Zimbabwe launched the National Wetlands Policy and Wetlands Management Guidelines to promote the protection of the country’s wetlands to sustain their ecological and socio-economic functions
World Wetlands Day is celebrated each year on the 2nd of February to rally the globe towards protection of these vital ecosystems.
