PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has left for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to attend the African Union (AU) Summit.
President Mnangagwa will join other Heads of State from the African continent for the 36th edition of the AU summit which will discuss, among the topical issues, food security and infrastructure development which includes air and rail connectivity.
The Summit will run under the theme: ‘The year of AFCTA: Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation.’
The issue of conflict which has rocked some African countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is also expected to be discussed.
Also topical is climate change which has severely affected Africa, hence the heads of state and government are expected to discuss how the continent can counter the effects of climate change.
This comes at a time when the Second Republic has put in place various measures to boost food security focusing on the construction of dams and setting up of irrigation infrastructure countrywide.
President Mnangagwa was seen off at the Robert Mugabe International Airport by Vice President, General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga and several senior government officials.
