MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE- SOUTHERN African Development Community(SADC) Chairperson President Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived in Maputo ahead of Mozambique’s 50th Independence celebrations set for this Wednesday.
President Mnangagwa was received at the Maputo International Airport by Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Manuela Lucas, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Mozambique, His Excellency Victor Matemadanda, and embassy officials.
The independence anniversary will be held at the iconic Machava Stadium, with 40 000 people expected to converge for the celebrations.
Mozambique attained independence after dismantling Portuguese rule in 1975.
This year’s celebrations are being held under the theme: “50 Years of Independence: Consolidating National Unity, Peace and Sustainable Development.
