President Mnangagwa engages Zimbabweans based in Egypt

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged Zimbabweans based in Egypt to contribute to Zimbabwe’s economic growth through investing in various sectors of the economy.
After attending the Presidential Forum of the Intra-African Trade Fair in Cairo, Egypt President Mnangagwa engaged Zimbabwean nationals based in the North African country.
It was a time for the President to reflect on his first visit to Egypt for military training in 1963.
“We were 13 students who came here for training in 1963. But we did not complete it because there was a split back home. When ZAPU split a gang of four rebels left ZANU. The gang of four broke away from Joshua Nkomo back home. We were here 13 of us. I was the youngest, yet cleverest among the group so, I was the leader. it’s not my first time in Egypt, I’ve stayed here before so I’m not a visitor. I have survived a lot of machinations,” he said.
Focusing on the diaspora, President Mnangagwa said the government is aware that they are a critical component in economic development.
He added, “Forums like this always enable us to meet and deliberate on important issues. I’m satisfied that you, as diaspora members have upheld your identity. My government recognises that you’re a critical constituency.”
He also revealed that the government is reviewing the diaspora policy to facilitate more investment.
“I invite you to consider the low-hanging fruits. As you’re aware my administration is spearheading development. My government established ZIDA, which is a one-stop shop. I’m equally proud and encouraged that some of my friends in the diaspora are interested. Government is in the process of reviewing the national diaspora policy to enable the diaspora all over the world to contribute to the development of the country,” said the President.
The President also took the opportunity to highlight the peaceful nature of the August 23 General Elections, saying the focus has shifted to national development.
“Our country held peaceful, credible and fair elections. The elections are now behind us and we are focused on developing our country based on our mantra; Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo, we shall and we will build our motherland. Honourable Masuka updated us on the agriculture project which will see Zimbabwe farming for Egypt,” he reiterated.
There was also a question-and-answer session, where the President clarified various issues, including investment opportunities in Zimbabwe.
