President Mnangagwa  declares Mbare inferno State of Disaster

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared a State of Disaster after the fire incident which destroyed Mbare Traders Market last week.

In a statement, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works said the declaration is in terms of Section 27 of the Civil Protection Act.

“His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has in terms of Section 27(10 Of the Civil Protection Act (Chapter 10:06). Declared A State of Disaster following a destructive fire at the Mbare Traders Market on the 8th 0f October 2024,” reads the statement.

Government will assist in mobilising necessary resources in cash and kind for the reconstruction of the market as well as assist affected entrepreneurs to resuscitate their businesses.

“The declaration will thus assist in mobilising necessary resources, in cash and kind, to support the rebuilding of the market as well as assist affected entrepreneurs resuscitate their businesses.”

The fire razed down the retail section and parts of the wholesale market, affecting over 4,000 traders.
