President Mnangagwa commissions flour plant as Zimbabwe boosts food security

Story by ZBC Reporter

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially commissioned the Mega Market Flour Milling Plant in Mutare, marking another milestone in Zimbabwe’s drive toward industrial growth, value addition, and food self-sufficiency.

The state-of-the-art milling plant, which began operating in 2022 at reduced capacity, has since been upgraded to full production, processing up to 300 tonnes of wheat per day.

The facility specialises in the production of white bread flour, self-raising flour, cake flour, and biscuit flour, serving both domestic and regional markets.

The Mega Market Flour Milling Plant adds momentum to Zimbabwe’s agro-industrial transformation agenda by creating jobs, supporting local wheat farmers, and boosting downstream industries in the baking and confectionery sectors.

The development also aligns with the government’s Vision 2030, which seeks to establish a modern, industrialised, and self-sustaining economy driven by local production and innovation.
