PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has challenged Zimbabwe’s youth to stand proud of their heritage and actively contribute to the country’s socio-economic development.

Speaking at the National Youth Day celebrations at Igava Training Centre in Marondera, Mashonaland East, this Saturday, he urged young Zimbabweans to “be proud of being Zimbabwean and African. Zimbabwe will always be your home, defend its sovereignty, independence and freedom while also advancing unity, development and modernisation and industrialisation.”

President Mnangagwa highlighted the significance of decentralising national events, saying the Marondera gathering reflects the government’s commitment to being close to the people. “Our government is from the people and by the people. We shall always be found among our citizens, engaging with them and charting the future of our country as a united nation,” he said.

He described National Youth Day as an opportunity for reflection, renewal, and recommitment to the values of the liberation struggle, and called on youths to remain loyal, patriotic, and active in their communities. “I challenge the youth to be always active and protective within the communities we live in, right up to the national level across all sectors,” he said.

The President praised the industrious spirit, creativity, and leadership of the current generation, observed during exhibitions and activities at the celebrations. He reiterated the importance of unity and dialogue, emphasising that youth participation is critical to advancing Zimbabwe’s development agenda.
