President Mnangagwa calls for responsible behaviour during holiday break

Story by Josephine Mugiyo

It is Christmas Eve and for many Christians across the world, they are getting ready to celebrate this special holiday. Christmas is also a time to be merry, a time to celebrate and a time to be with family for most people.

The season is associated with a lot of spending as some go all out to make each Christmas a memorable one.

It is also a season to spread kindness to one another and give to the less-privileged.

As Zimbabweans reflect on 2024 and plan for the New Year, the First Citizen, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, continues to call for responsible behaviour during the holiday break as he wishes the nation a Merry Christmas.

President Mnangagwa has good wishes for Zimbabweans across the globe for this Christmas.

“On my own behalf, that of government and indeed my family, I wish all fellow citizens at home and abroad, a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2025. May the new year ahead bring hope and greater prosperity for our motherland, Zimbabwe,” he said.

While it’s a time to celebrate, the Christmas holiday is also associated with numerous accidents.

In the days leading up to Christmas on different platforms, President Mnangagwa has been consistent on the message for Zimbabweans to be careful on the roads and to exercise extreme caution.

While in Chiweshe recently, the Head of State had some words of wisdom for road users. He appealed on all drivers to aspire not to be counted among those who cause accidents.

“We’re going to Christmas, let’s be responsible in the manner in which we drink. There are many accidents that happen during festive season, so I’m asking you to be careful on the roads. I’m saying this to the whole of Zimbabweans, each person must say I don’t want to be part of those who cause accidents.”

Police are also maintaining a heavy presence on the country’s roads to ensure law and order.
