Story by Josephine Mugiyo, Diplomatic Correspondent

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is back home after attending the 38th ordinary session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Speaking from the Robert Mugabe International Airport, President Mnangagwa said one of the main issues discussed at the well attended summit was the conflict in the eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

He said the heads of state from the region agreed on the need to promote dialogue and for both sides to be brought to the table and cease the hostilities which have resulted in the dislocation of thousands and deaths.

The DRC has faced close to a decade of unrest, and it continues to face instability and chaos with fights over power and resources.

The killing of peace keepers recently in the DRC drew the ire of the regional and international community.
