HARARE – PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa this Monday presided over the burial of National Hero Cde Luke Mushore, also known by his Chimurenga name, Cde Dick Joboringo, praising his unwavering commitment to the liberation struggle and his enduring legacy of patriotism and service.

A key contributor in the liberation struggle, Cde Mushore left a trail of bravery, patriotism, and loyalty.

“On behalf of the government of Zimbabwe, our revolutionary party, ZANU PF, my family and indeed my own behalf, I express my deepest condolences to the Mushore family for this sorrowful loss. We, however, remain inspired by the distinguished role played by our late departed hero in liberating our country from colonial bondage. The late Cde Mushore was a dependable cadre and pillar who diligently aided both the work of our party and government with distinguished honour and sacrifice,” he said

The head of state went on to highlight the traits exhibited by Cde Mushore which he said are worth emulating.

“The patriotism, consistency and persistency, which our national hero demonstrated during his service to our revolutionary mass party, ZANU PF, and in other various national capacities is worthy of emulation by generations to come. After his training, Cde Dick Joboringo was among an early crop of ZANLA fighters who fought alongside FRELIMO guerillas to open routes to Zimbabwe,” President Mnangagwa said.

As the country goes through a developmental trajectory, President Mnangagwa said this requires steadfast and resolute individuals made in the like of Cde Mushore.

“Let us therefore never forget that it is through the selfless and consistent sacrifices as well as dedication by the late Cde Mushore that our beloved motherland is an independent, sovereign, and united country. In their honour let us always advance our national interests and defend our country from all enemies. We must bear in mind that it is us who have the primary responsibility to develop Zimbabwe brick by brick, stone upon stone,” he said.

Cde Mushore died on June 13 in Centenary after a long illness, he was 76.
