Preparations for Independence Celebrations on course

Story by Owen Mandovha

PREPARATIONS for this year’s Independence Celebrations are on course, with the government having confirmed the venue and theme for the national event.

This was announced by the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcaster Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere during this Tuesday’s Post Cabinet Media Briefing in Harare.

Consistent with the government’s commitment towards decentralisation of national events, this year’s independence celebrations will be held at Nembudziya Growth Point in Gokwe, Midlands Province.

“In line with the thrust of the Second Republic to hold national events rotationally across the country’s provinces, the 45th Independence Anniversary Celebrations will be held on April 18, at the Nembudziya Growth Point open ground in Gokwe North. As per tradition, the Children’s Party will precede the main celebrations on April 17, at Nyamuroro High School while the Independence Gala will be hosted at Nembudziya Government School on the eve of April 18.

“Running under the theme ” Zimbabwe @45: Devolve and Develop Together Towards Vision 2030,” the celebrations are poised to attract over 60 000 people, a bumper crowd drawn from the country’s ten provinces will attend the belated celebrations,” Dr Muswere said.

Cabinet also considered and approved the Early Childhood Development Coordination Framework to harmonise existing policies and strengthen the capacity of existing systems to holistically provide quality and affordable education to children.

Preparations for the 2025 Sangani/Hlanganani Business Expo are on course, with the event set to be staged in Manicaland Province.

Cabinet has also approved a 12-member delegation which will attend the EXPO 2025 in Osaka Japan while shipments of materials for exhibitions at the Pavilion have already begun.

Meanwhile, cabinet was appraised on His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa attendance of the State Funeral for the founding father of the Republic of Namibia, Dr Sam Nujoma where he paid tribute to the African icon and liberation stalwart for selflessly contributing to the liberation of African countries.
