TWO police officers, who were reportedly caught on camera receiving a bribe in Harare, have been remanded in custody pending their bail application set for this Wednesday.
The two, Rudo Chirengwendure aged 28 and Nyasha Mupandira (34) were arraigned before a Harare Court this Tuesday, facing criminal abuse of office charges.
The State is opposed the pair’s release on bail pending trial, arguing that they are facing a serious offence.
The applied for postponement of the matter to this Wednesday for bail application, noting that they want to lead evidence from the investigating officer.
The pair did not object to the postponement.
It is the state’s case that on Independence Day, the duo was deployed to curb illegal activities at the busy intersection of Nelson Mandela and Rezende Street in Harare.
The court heard that the two were caught on camera accepting money and eventually releasing the woman they had arrested for a traffic offense.
The pair was arrested after the video went viral on social media.
