BRICS Global Media Tour Russian Edition: Participants discuss BRICS and Africa link in Global Transformation

BRICSTV – On Monday, 3 July. The Gorchakov Fund hosted the opening ceremony of the BRICS Global Media Tour. Russian Edition and the InteRussia internship for journalists from African countries. The participants of the media tour also took part in a discussion on “BRICS and Africa in Global Transformation”.

“As journalists, we all see the increasing popularity and influence of BRICS alliance as the global power. BRICS cooperation is advancing steadily. In the relatively short period of the association’s existence, the Five have reached the level of a full-fledged strategic partnership that covers a wide range of areas. Each year, interaction is taking on more and more concrete forms and forward-looking formats are being created. The agenda is expanding. A growing number of relevant agencies are getting involved. World leaders and international media stress the great potential of BRICS. Importantly, the BRICS agenda is oriented towards addressing international development issues common to all participants.”

She stressed the importance of integrating the information agenda in the global media space, something the TV BRICS team is working on together with its partners.

This year the summit of five countries is supposed to be held in BRICS+ format. South Africa as the only African member of BRICS pays huge attention to the involvement of other African countries in BRICS cooperation and activities. It obviously brings other countries to strengthening ties with the biggest emerging markets in the world.

“We are more than convinced that BRICS and African countries have a lot of things in common and have a huge experience in different areas to share with each other. And media cooperation should be a tool to build a solid platform for the further promoting of any possible contacts and projects between the countries,” noted Daria Ivankova.

“I hope that this press tour will strengthen cultural and tourism exchanges between Russia and other BRICS countries. The Chinese people are united in their national self-respect, we want to broadcast a positive agenda to our audience, to talk about tourism, thereby strengthening the friendship between the five nations. This will increase the flow of tourists, which, in turn, is one of the drivers of economic growth.”

Sergio Marcos Beatriz Chitsembe, a journalist and Board Member of TVM, Mozambique from Mozambique, spoke about what the opportunity to participate in the media tour meant to him.

“We find this opportunity as a bridge to interact with African countries and the BRICS and matters of cultural, social interests. And then we know the role that media can play when we want to bring people together, want to bring countries together, to build an agenda. So we’ll spend every minute, each second trying to learn, trying to grab something that can be useful in future to make this organisation stronger and stronger,“ said the journalist.

Victoria Karsleyeva, Deputy executive director of the Gorchakov Fund, spoke about other opportunities for media tour participants.

“For those journalists who come to us, this is a huge professional opportunity. They will get information from primary sources, will be those journalists who by the duty of their profession can create high-quality materials, send them to their countries, place this content on their info resources and be those people, those guides, who will build horizontal connections in the future.”

Albert Mirirayi Chekayi, Director of News and Current Affairs of ZBC News (Zimbabwe), praised the media tour as an opportunity to make connections to share content.

“As the director of a media company, I am interested in learning about life in Russia from the inside and creating content that will be interesting and useful to the Zimbabwean audience. We really want to find friends where we can cooperate for the exchange of stories and programmes, and for me, TV BRICS is one such opportunity,” shared Albert Mirirayi Chekayi’s expectations.

Evgeny Primakov, head of Rossotrudnichestvo, said that Russia attaches great importance to strengthening relations with African countries, basing on a long joint history.

“We would like very much to exchange with you some meanings, our vision of the future of Russian-African relations, the future of the African continent. You have an amazing chance to get to know Russia,” he said, addressing the participants of the event.

The media tour is organised by the BRICS-Media Association in cooperation with TV BRICS, with a grant provided by the support of Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund.

Among the participants of the BRICS Global Media Tour. Russian Edition are top managers of media companies, partners of TV BRICS from Brazil, India, China, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, representing different types of media: public and private TV stations, radio, news agencies of national and regional levels.

Delegates of the BRICS Global Media Tour. Russian Edition will have exclusive access to attendance and coverage of leading events on the international agenda held in Russia.
