Paramount Under 20 rugby league headlines weekend’s sporting action

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

THE top-of-the-table clash between Pitbulls and Old Hararians in the Paramount Under 20 Rugby League headlines the weekend’s sporting action that will also see the domestic cricket T20 final being played on Sunday.

The two sides are undefeated this season, while Pitbulls are undefeated in two years having won last season’s trophy unscratched.

The Churchill High School-based Pitbulls have been mauling anyone on their way but know that a tough encounter lies ahead as they face an opponent on top of its game and also playing on their home turf.

Old Hararians have been a pale shadow of themselves in recent years but under the guidance of former national team flyhalf, Tichafara Makwanya, Old Hararians are starting to show class once again.

They are undefeated this season and pose a genuine threat to the Jeff Madhake-coached Bulls.

The match is the last encounter of the day on Saturday, but before that Harare Sports Club have a date with Horns, while Northern Chiefs take on Zimburu.

Old Georgians and FS Raiders will play curtain raisers to the Old Hararians and Pitbulls clash.

Still at Old Hararians, but moving to the cricket pitch, the Domestic T20 competition will continue with clubs battling to make it to the final that is set for Sunday.

Rocks will take on Eagles, with the winners definitely making it to the final a day later.

The other matches in the same competition will be played at Harare Sports Club as Rhinos take on Lions, while Tuskers battle against Mountaineers.

In women’s cricket, action will be at Kwekwe Sports Club where Eagles are up against Tuskers and at Goldridge School in Kwekwe, Mountaineers take on Rhinos in one-day matches.
