Government is implementing the online integrated border management system at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport with the pilot phase now underway.
Chief Director – Immigration, Ms Respect Gono said the pilot project is going on as scheduled.
“We have installed our computers and other accessories for the system. We are left with putting in place e gates and the pilot project is going on very well,” he said.
Impressed by progress made so far, Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Honourable Kazembe touted the project as one which will ensure seamless immigration services and real time services at the airport apart from reducing human interaction.
“We have been talking about implementation of our online boarder management system. The need to computerise our systems. We have also been talking about the integrated system that the ministry of home affairs has embarked on .we have started deploying the online boarder management system. The hardware is here and the outstanding e gates are here. The system is on a pilot stage. I witnessed the biometric charecteristics.im impressed that the system is actually operational,” said Minister Kazembe.
Implementation of the integrated online boarder management system at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport will enable automation and digitisation of immigration procedures, thus ensuring quicker processing times and enhanced security measures at the country’s ports of entry.
The developments at the airport come at a time Zimbabwe will receive regional leaders coming for the SADC Summit this week.
