NUST innovation hub sets benchmark for university-led economic development

THE visiting African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) delegation has hailed the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) innovation hub describing it as a model of university-driven socio-economic transformation.

The delegation, which toured the university’s innovation hub and technovation centre in Bulawayo on Tuesday, commended NUST for fostering innovation, research, and youth-led enterprise development.

“This is a shining example of how innovation can drive economic growth,” International Consultant for APRM, Professor Masibo Lumala said.

The visitors noted that replicating NUST’s innovation framework across other universities could accelerate national development and enhance Africa’s competitiveness in science and technology.

“A replica of this model in all universities will, with no doubt, transform the country,” APRM Country Coordinator, Mr Germain Tshinu added.

Echoing similar sentiments, APRM Lead Council Member for Zimbabwe, Ambassador Aly El Hefney, said the NUST model demonstrates how young people can pioneer homegrown solutions to drive Africa’s progress.

“Africans can learn from this model, where youths lead in coming up with homegrown solutions to transform the country,” APRM lead Council member for Zimbabwe, Ambassador Aly El Hefney noted.

The APRM delegation is in Zimbabwe as part of its ongoing review mission assessing governance, innovation, and economic development initiatives across the country.
