Norman Maroto honoured with legends cup

Story by Wellington Makonese

FOOTBALL enthusiasts thronged Dzivarasekwa Stadium this Sunday for a four-team tournament in memory of former Dynamos striker Norman Maroto, who left a rich legacy beyond the football pitch.

The Norman Maroto Legends Cup brought together former professionals, local stars and rising talent in a display of skill and sportsmanship.

“This tournament is more than just a game. It’s a celebration of Norman Maroto’s extraordinary career and a testament to the enduring power of football to inspire and unite. We thought that we should come together and do something during this holiday for his family as well,” organiser Nkululeko Dhlamini said.

Family Spokesperson Paul Muuya said, “The family is deeply touched by this outpouring of support. It’s a privilege to witness the football fraternity come together to honour my father’s contribution to Zimbabwean football and show that unity is power.”

The matches were played in a spirit of friendly competition, reflecting the essence of the day celebrating unity and honouring a trusted goal-scorer and sporting icon who left an indelible mark on the local football scene.
