THE African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has established a digital knowledge centre in Cairo, Egypt, to promote homegrown research and ensure the continent tells its own economic story, with Zimbabwe identified as a key partner in developing authentic African narratives.

The centre will be focused on promoting African-led research and ensuring the continent develops its own narratives based on authentic data and analysis.

Afreximbank Senior Manager Mr Brian Kutiwa explained the centre’s mission to make African research accessible both within the bank and to external stakeholders.

“The knowledge centre is there to promote research that can be accessed by our own staff in the bank, but also by external stakeholders or academic staff from various institutions. The idea is to make sure that we, as Africans, have opportunities there for Zimbabwe that can be tapped through our knowledge centre. Our information sources are there for Zimbabweans to access wherever they are on a digital platform,” he said.

The initiative represents a significant step towards African intellectual sovereignty, ensuring research on intra-African trade and economic development is generated and disseminated by African institutions for the benefit of the continent’s growth and development.
