New civil registry office opens in Wedza, bringing e-passport services closer to residents

RESIDENTS of Wedza now have easier access to civil registration services following the official opening of the Wedza Civil Registry Office this Tuesday. The facility will provide a range of services, including e-passport applications and renewals.

For years, locals were required to travel to Harare or Marondera to obtain critical documents, a process that was often costly and time-consuming. The new office is expected to ease the burden and improve access to essential government services.

“We are very excited with this development as we used to travel and sleep in Harare for the services which have now been brought closer home.

“I came from South Africa and was hoping to come and renew my passport in Harare, but the burden has now been lessened by the new offices.

“We used to be short-changed and conned by middlemen in Harare, but it is now a thing of the past as services are now on our doorsteps,” local residents said.

The Wedza Civil Registry Office is the third in Mashonaland East to offer e-passport services, following Marondera and Murehwa. The initiative forms part of the Second Republic’s decentralisation and devolution agenda, aimed at improving access to government services and bringing development closer to communities.
