THE upgrading of Nembudziya High School in Gokwe has been completed, significantly improving the learning environment and easing pressure on facilities following a steady rise in enrolment.
The upgrade programme saw the construction of five new facilities, a science laboratory, a home economics block, an administration block, a classroom block and ablution facilities, alongside the refurbishment of existing infrastructure.
School authorities say the improvements have enabled the institution to discontinue the long-standing hot seating system, a practice necessitated by limited classroom space.
“We are grateful to our President for upgrading our school. We now have structures that can compete with schools in urban setups. We have done away with hot sitting since we now have enough rooms to accommodate our students. We have also witnessed our enrolment rising from 900 to 1 000 and this is a great development indeed,” Nembudziya High School’s Headmaster, Mr Andrew Muyashu said.
Parents and community members have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that improved infrastructure will translate into stronger academic performance.
“We are happy with the new look at our school. We are urging the teachers to pull up their sleeves and get down to business so that we put the school on the map with good results,” a parent said.
“We feel remembered as a community. The school has reached a level that amazes us. We hope this will attract qualified teachers and motivate learners to excel,” a community member added.
“With the new science laboratory, we hope our children will be enticed to enjoy STEM subjects. We want more doctors and engineers from Nembudziya High School,” another weighed in.
Nembudziya High School is among several institutions that benefited from rehabilitation and expansion works last year, as Government continues to roll out infrastructure development in rural areas under its inclusive development and rural industrialisation agenda.
