ARTISTS in Zimbabwe can expect sustained backing and resources, as the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe gears up to drive growth and progress in the sector.

With his new appointment as Director of the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, Mr Napoleon Nyanhi is dedicated to establish a favorable environment that promotes creativity, innovation, and excellence in the arts sector.

“The National Arts Council is made for that very purpose of making sure that we create a conducive working environment for artists in the country. We regulate their work and we also make sure that whatever it is that they do, we help them make it lucrative and attractive for export,” said Nyanhi.

Better access to information on grant funding and investment in infrastructure development are essential for the sector’s growth.

“We’ve got funding partners that come through every year with different opportunities. Funders like the EU, Culture Fund, UNESCO, they come up every year with different areas they would like to target and sometimes this information does not get to the artist. Our work is to make sure that we get this information to as many artists as possible. In terms of infrastructure development, there have been plans to create culture centres around the country in the different provinces and even at district level to ensure there are spaces where artists have a home,” he added.

True to its mission, the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe is working tirelessly to provide the arts sector with the necessary support and resources, thereby creating an enabling environment for artistic expression and innovation to flourish.
