CALLS for peace and unity echoed through Kuwadzana Extension on Sunday as thousands gathered for the funeral of three children whose tragic death has gripped the nation.
In a deeply emotional third day of mourning, mourners from various church denominations and communities came together in Kuwadzana Extension’s Herbert Chitepo area for the funeral of the three children who were found dead in a car trunk on Friday.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the country, prompting a collective outpouring of grief and calls for answers.
Among those present were members of the Bethesda Apostolic Church, to which Anotidaishe and Anopa Muzanago’s family belongs. Church leader, Bishop Nyasha Manhango, called for calm and unity in the face of tragedy.
“As the Church, we were saddened when we heard about the death of these children. We came here, where we also assisted in the search, but we want to thank the Police for the assistance. Coming today, the main message we have is for the nation to love one another and be at peace with each other,” he said.
Amid rising public speculation and growing suspicions of foul play, ZRP National Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged the public to remain patient and allow investigations to continue.
“We are calling for the nation to allow the Police to carry out the investigations, and more information will be released,” he noted.
Commissioner Nyathi also issued a stern warning against opportunists using the tragedy to solicit funds through social media.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns people mobilising Zimbabweans to deposit money into an Inbucks account owned by one individual, Mutongi, under the guise of mobilising for funeral expenses, demonstration, or illegal gathering, where it is alleged that one of the children’s bodies was missing. This is contrary to the country’s laws. There is no evidence that the children were found with body parts missing,” he added.
The three children were reported missing last Wednesday and were tragically discovered on Friday in a locked vehicle, a development that has triggered national mourning and raised many questions. As the community continues to seek closure, authorities have reassured the public that justice will prevail.
