MORE housing projects are being rolled out across the country as investor confidence grows, with Government promoting private sector participation to reduce the national housing backlog.
The Borrowdale Park Housing Project, a private sector development by Ox Properties, is the latest initiative contributing to efforts to address the housing deficit while showcasing growth in the construction sector.
President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, represented by the Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Professor Paul Mavima at the commissioning ceremony in Harare this Friday, commended the role of the private sector in supporting national housing delivery.
“Government appreciates the role played by the private sector in reducing the housing backlog as we strive to ensure that everyone owns housing that resonates with an upper-middle-income society. Borrowdale Park shows that our economy is growing and providing opportunities for development,” he said.
Ox Properties Chief Executive Officer, Mr Michael Swan said the project reflects the company’s commitment to helping address the country’s housing needs, with more developments planned in partnership with Government.
“Borrowdale Park represents another milestone in our quest to plug the national housing deficit, and we are grateful to Government for creating this enabling environment. Once complete, the project will feature technological and eco-friendly solutions that align with a green economy. We are also seeking partnerships with Government to establish low-cost housing projects,” he said.
Government is targeting the delivery of one million housing units and has prioritised creating a conducive environment for private sector participation.
The approach has contributed to significant growth in the construction and property sectors, in line with the objectives of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).
