WARRIORS captain Marvelous Nakamba has hailed Hellenic Junior School for propelling the development of football in the country after successfully hosting a 5-Aside Festival in Harare this Friday.
It was action galore at the annual Hellenic 5-Aside Festival that was held under the lights at the independent school.
The tournament which is sponsored by Remax Advisory has been running for 10 years and is the brainchild of Ray Funani, a teacher at the institution.
The annual festival sees colts and junior students competing in a well-structured competition.
This year, 14 government and private schools took part and were watched by injured Warriors captain, Marvelous Nakamba who was impressed with the talent on show.
“I am happy with what I saw today, it has been a wonderful festival and I thank Remax for sponsoring it. If we can have more people supporting football at the grassroots then our country will develop better footballers because that is where it starts,” said Nakamba.
Other football stakeholders like renowned junior development coach Clayton Munemo, Bhekimpilo Nyoni and respected football agent Gibson Mahachi, among others, graced the festival.
Hellenic Primary School is committed to the further growth of the festival.
“The support from Remax and its partners has been tremendous and has helped us grow this festival. We are already planning for next year which we envisage to be even bigger than this one. I must say, having an international star here has been awesome, it has motivated the kids and the parents as well,” said the Hellenic Primary School’s head, Lisa Rickards.
The school won gold in the colts section, while St John’s took the honours in the juniors category as the tournament concluded under floodlights.
