THE National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) has launched a comprehensive film and television plan aimed at revitalising the film industry.
According to NACZ Communications Manager, Tafadzwa Nyabinde, the plan will result in a collaborative effort between the arts council and the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture.
“The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe has been working in collaboration with our parent ministry, the Ministry of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, to come up with a film strategy. This is a document that is going to guide the industry to revive it. After independence, Zimbabwe had a very thriving industry with projects like Neria and Yellow Card, to name a few. We had a consultation across all provinces to find out how we can revive film to make it bigger and better,” he said.
The plan was developed after nationwide consultations, which revealed the need to capacitate the film industry.
He added, “Our major findings from the consultations were on capacitation in the film industry. There is a need for upgrading of equipment and funding for film-related projects. We have established a national drafting team that comprises representatives across all provinces and we came up with a blueprint being consolidated by consultants as we speak.”
By providing a clear roadmap for the industry’s development, NACZ aims to attract investment, promote local talent and showcase Zimbabwean stories to a global audience.
