THE National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) is set to host an intense competition as the country’s finest athletes gather at White City Stadium in Bulawayo for the 2025 Interprovincial Athletics Championships this Saturday.

As the athletes prepare to take to the track, the excitement is palpable with athletes vying for a spot on Team Zimbabwe, the competition is expected to be fierce.

“I am happy to announce that our 30 athletes are ready to shine at the upcoming championships. This competition is a crucial step towards securing spots for Team Zimbabwe in major international events, and we are confident that our talented athletes will make the country proud. Moreover, this platform has proven to be a launching pad for athletes to secure scholarships in the USA, paving the way for their future success,” NAAZ president Tendai Tagara said.

The highly-anticipated event will serve as a crucial pre-qualifier for the upcoming Southern Region Senior Championships, scheduled to take place in Harare next month.

The championships will be a defining moment for Zimbabwe’s top athletes, as their performances will determine the final roster for the national senior squad that will represent the country in the Confederation of African Athletics Southern Region Senior Championships.

The event will also serve as a selection platform for athletes to represent Zimbabwe in the African Union Sport Council Region 5 Games in Namibia later in July.

What’s more, the championships will also play a significant role in identifying and nurturing talent for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States.
