Mwenezi man jailed 18 years for raping minor (15)

A 37-year-old man from Maranda Village in Mwenezi district, Norman Moyo, will rue the day he raped a 15-year-old girl after he was jailed for 18 years.

It is the state’s case that on the 8th of May this year at around 4 pm, the complainant was on her way home from Madenyika Secondary School in Mberengwa when she met the accused.

The court heard that the accused demanded sex from the underage girl, but she refused and tried to run away.

The complainant, however, failed to escape before the accused raped her.

It is alleged that after committing the crime, the accused threatened the girl and fled the scene.

The matter came to light after the girl narrated the ordeal to her aunt, leading to the arrest of the accused.

Meanwhile, in another case, 21-year-old Elvis Zhou of Mataga Village in Mberengwa has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping a mentally challenged female adult.

Allegations are that on the 30th of May this year, Zhou approached the victim at a borehole where he asked her to accompany him to Utsanana Business Centre in Mberengwa to buy some groceries.

On their way to the shops, the accused took the complainant to an abandoned hut where he raped her twice.

The matter came to light after the complainant’s parents noticed some behavioural changes in their daughter, leading to Zhou’s arrest.
