THE construction of the stadium that will host the Uhuru Cup between Dynamos and Highlanders is expected to benefit the Buhera community beyond the country’s 44th independence celebrations.
The hosting of Independence celebrations in Buhera has come with lot of infrastructural developments with the newly constructed stadium at Murambinda B secondary school among key facilities developed during the run up to the national event.
“We are excited that this stadium has changing rooms and terraces among other facilities. This is a welcome development that will benefit us to become competitive with regards to sport development,” said a Buhera resident.
“We now have energy to focus on sports following the construction of this stadium. We thank our president because we had never witnessed such a development in Buhera before. Our ground has loan, water and changing rooms,” added another resident.
“We can’t wait to watch the match between Highlanders and Dynamos here,” added another resident.
“This is massive development in Buhera in terms of sport development and we are looking forward to watch matches in this stadium.”
Government spoke on works that have been done, highlighting that measures have been put in place for the maintenance and sustainable use of the stadium beyond the independence celebrations.
“Our stadium is now ready to host the independence celebrations and matches. We worked on the stadium as local engineers and we also did the turf up to ZIFA Standards. We also have a new changing room which was also built according to ZIFA standards. We are also completing terraces and we will continue after Independence,” said the director of public works, .Engineer Ackim Marivara.
The director of Infrastructure Planning and Environmental Management in the Manicaland minister of State’s Office, Engineer Timothy Rukuni said, “We have state of the Art Infrastructure that has been built in Murambinda as you can see we are ready to host the independence celebrations. This infrastructure is not only for independence but is going to be sustainably utilised thereafter. This infrastructure will be expanded and even modified to suit future use.”
Director Sport and Recreation in the ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Dr Eugenia Chidhakwa said the construction of the stadium is in line with government’s vision to improve sporting facilities across the country.
“As a ministry, we are happy with this development. As you can see, we have a ZIFA certified stadium as well as changing rooms. This is the, direction we are taking as a ministry to make sure that sporting facilities are accessible to each and every one within Zimbabwe.”
Meanwhile, Manica Diamonds and Simba Bhora are expected to battle it out this Wednesday in a curtain raiser to the Uhuru Cup clash between Dynamos and Highlanders on Thursday.
