WARRIORS midfielder Marshall Munetsi is delighted to be back in the national team fold as Zimbabwe intensifies preparations for the upcoming Unity Cup tournament in England.
Munetsi last featured for the Warriors in October last year and missed the Africa Cup of Nations finals due to injury before falling out with former coach Marian Marinica.
The Paris FC midfielder has since rejoined the squad and has challenged the new players in camp to grab the opportunity and showcase their abilities on the international stage.
“I am excited to be back. It has been a long time and it is always a dream to play for the national team. Right now, we have a number of new players and they just have to play their normal game and showcase their abilities because that is how they succeed,” he said.
Meanwhile, interim Warriors coach Kaitano Tembo says the Unity Cup matches are critical in laying a strong foundation ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin in September.
“We want to put a solid base and know exactly how we play before we enter the qualifiers. The guys are still coming in, but it should be easy because we have a lot of continuity.”
The Warriors are camped in Birmingham and will shift base to London on Sunday ahead of their opening Unity Cup clash against the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday.
